Komenda College of Education Holds its 14th Congregation and Graduation Ceremony, Graduates 429 Students

Komenda College of Education hosted its 14th Congregation and Graduation Ceremony on 12th September 2024 at the Robert Mensa Complex Hall, under the theme Inclusive Education - The New Paradigm for the 21st Century Pre-Senior High School (SHS) Graduate Teacher. This prestigious event, attended by esteemed guests, graduates, and faculty, marked a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to advancing inclusive education.

During his welcoming address, Rt. Rev. Richardson Aboagye Andam, the Bishop of the Methodist Church of Cape Coast diocese and the Council Chair for the College, expressed his admiration for the graduands, commending their hard work and unwavering commitment to their studies throughout their four-year tenure at the college.

In his address, Very Reverend Professor Kwesi Nkum Wilson, the Principal of Komenda College, expressed gratitude to God for the institution's successes and the exceptional statistics of the 2023 graduating class. 

According to him, this group represents the first cohort he admitted as principal and has emerged with impressive graduation results;

Addressing the theme of the ceremony, Very Reverend Professor Kwesi Nkum Wilson emphasized the significance of inclusive education, stating that it is not merely about accepting everyone but also celebrating their diversity. 

He proudly announced that Komenda College of Education has embraced inclusive education and adequately supports its students. 

Moreover, the principal highlighted some challenges faced by the college and shared several successes that have been achieved over the years.

The guest speaker, Ms. Helena Mensah, the Acting Director of the Special Education Division at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters and an alumna of the college, congratulated the graduates on their achievement. 

She emphasized that the journey of education and teaching is just beginning for them and urged them to harness their power to shape lives and improve society. 

“Teachers are no longer just conveyors of knowledge but facilitators of learning,” she added, celebrating the critical timing of their graduation amidst a growing demand for inclusive education.

Ms. Mensah also commended the college for its progressive decision to incorporate sign language into its curriculum and presented the institution with a Ghanaian language sign dictionary as a token of appreciation.

She urged other colleges to follow suit and adopt similar inclusive educational practices.

In the closing remarks, the chairperson of the congregation, Rt. Rev. Richardson Aboagye Andam, congratulated the graduates and urged them to be ambassadors of inclusive education as they move into the teaching profession. 

He reminded them of their critical role in shaping the future of Ghana’s education system and encouraged them to make a positive impact in the lives of their students.
