The Department of Social Science is one of the six departments in the Komenda College of Education. It is headed by Eric Sekyi (PhD). The department meets twice every semester aside emergency meetings, thus the first week of the semester and the last week of the semester. The first week of the semester is used to discuss and take decisions relating to effective teaching and learning in the department in other to maintain high level of teaching competencies and professional discipline and also to ensure maximum cooperation among tutors and students in the department. It is also used to discuss pertinent decisions on the general well-being of the staff members. Administrative and professional matters within the department are also discussed. The last meeting which normally is held at the end of the semester is used to reflect on the activities done within the semester.

VISION
To position the department to complement the effort of the College in training qualified teachers for our basic schools.

MISSION
To help the College in training competent, dedicated and selfless professional teachers using available resources to align and complement the general mission of the College.

 

ACHIEVEMENTS
Our performance as tutors in the department is something that we are proud off. The pass rate of students in courses offered in the department has in most cases been 98% or better. The department has produced Vice Principal of the college in the person of Mr. Theophilus Kweku Bassaw. Last but not the least, the relationship among the members of the department has been very cordial as we have been collaborated with and supported one another to build an effective and efficient department.

Admission Requirements:
The entry requirements for admission to the new 4 -Year B.Ed. degree is as follows:

WASSCE Holders: CREDIT (A1-C6) in Six (6) subjects comprising Three (3) Core subjects, including English Language and Core Mathematics, and Three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of study.

SSSCE Holders: CREDIT (A-D) in Six (6) subjects comprising Three (3) Core subjects, including English Language and Core Mathematics, and Three (3) Elective subjects relevant to the course of study.

Holders of TVET Qualifications: CREDIT in Three Core subjects including English Language and Mathematics and PASSES in Three Elective subjects relevant to the course of study.

Candidate awaiting the MAY/JUNE WASSCE and NAPTEX RESULTS can also apply.

Exit Requirements:
Student teachers are expected to accumulate a minimum of 165 credits. The student teacher must:
a. fully meets the National Teachers’ Standards (NTS)
b. achieves a minimum CGPA of 1.5 in all courses
c. successful completion of 168 days school experience (supported teaching in schools)
