The Government has started cutting sod for the construction of 300-bed hostel blocks in all the 46 Colleges of Education. The project is expected to start from the 1st of June, 2022.

The construction of the three-storey blocks, estimated to cost ¢485 million, is being funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). This is an initiative of the Government, through the Ministry of Education, and its Agency, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

The project, when completed is set to help accommodate the increased number of students and improve teaching and learning In the colleges of education.

On 19th of May, 2022, Komenda College of Education witnessed handing over of the drawings and building plan for the project to the contractor, Mr. Samuel Yaw Oppong the lead architect and his team from highway constructions limited by Mrs. Maamley Addy, the Consultant for the project, on a visit to the project site.

The clearing of the site for this project is scheduled start on Monday, 23rd May, 2022, with the surveyor reporting to the Ministry lastest by Friday, 27th May.

Mrs. Maamley Addy assured Management of College that, the Ministry is committed to commissioning and handing-over of this project to the college within the next 15 months, which happens to be the contract period.

Mrs. Maamley Addy also tasked the contractor to ensure he delivers a good project within the stipulated timeline.

“There are alot of projects which GETEC will embark on in all the colleges across the country, but this is the major one, she added.

Mr. Samuel Yaw Oppong from Highway constructions Ltd, made it known that, enough funds have been secured to establish the project.

The Principal of the College, Very Reverend Dr. Kwesi Nkum Wilson on behalf of Management thanked the Ministry for the project. He added the college is ready to support the contractor to establish the project by next year June.
