As part of procedures to officially enroll fresh men and women into the various programmes offered by the college, Komenda College of Education on Thursday, February 10, 2022 held its 15th Matriculation Ceremony at the college’s Complex Hall.
In attendance were the Principal, Very Reverend Dr. Kwesi Nkum Wilson, the Acting Vice Principal, Mr. Theophilus Kweku Bassaw, the College Secretary, Ms. Constance Afriyie, the Finance officer, Mr. Peter Esson, the Librarian, Ms. Mercy Abah, Head of Quality Assurance, Mr. Mark Prince Kwamena Eghan, Students’ Affairs Officer, Ms. Sophia Efua Cobbinah, Internal Auditor, Ms. Leona Essien, the College Public Relations Officer, Mr. Godwin Anani, Special Guest from UEW, Dr. Mavis Amo Mensah, Deans, Heads of Departments, Hall Staff, Lecturers, Non-teaching staff members and SRC Executives.
The College Chaplain, Reverend Wilson Kortey Kotei, after his opening prayer, gave a short exaltation. In his ministration, he made it known to the students that there is, indeed, time for every activity under the sun and graciously, it is their turn to be matriculated. He later admonished them to make good use of their stay on campus as it is part of God’s plan and agenda for their lives.
In his welcome address, Very Reverend Dr. Kwesi Nkum Wilson made it known to the matriculants that, the ceremony is expected to confirm their acceptance as teacher trainees and to also assure management that they, the students, will obey all rules and regulations guiding their stay in the college. He added that Komenda College of Education does not only train teachers in academics, but also in character, discipline, hard work, entrepreneurial skills and mindset.
Providing the 2021/2022 admission statistics, the principal said the college received 2,530 applications out of which 1,096 applicants had selected Komenda College as their first choice. Six hundred and sixty-seven (667) were offered admission. Out of that number, 477 (236 females and 241 males) reported. One hundred and nineteen students who could not be admitted by the college were transferred to sister colleges.
In his conclusion, Very Reverend Dr Kwesi Nkum Wilson encouraged the matriculants by saying; “You are here to be successful, let the practices of hard work supersede any other unnecessary activity. You must think critically to add value to yourself and you must be responsible for your own actions. Remember to make time to read and adhere to the rules and regulations of the college. Go beyond your comfort zone, and do not be distracted, focus on significant activities. There may be courses you may not appreciate or like but do well to nurture them by working hard. Do not expect to be productive by staying at where you are. Move forward and study hard. My Staff would continue to support your success. Academic Counsellors are here for you in any internal condition which may hinder your academic performance.
Try your best to explore your hidden talents as well, dispel any assumptions, and let the authorities be aware of your external activities. You are welcome to Komenda College of Education, stay blessed and enjoy your stay on the Assai Hills.
Dr. Mavis Amo Mensah, the representative from University of Education, Winneba (UEW) also congratulated the matriculants for their successful journey so far. She said UEW is doing everything possible to ensure they have the best of training and tuition here. In conclusion, she admonished them to study hard as they are in the college to pursue higher education.
