Komenda College of Education under the Leadership of Very. Rev Kwesi Nkum Wilson(PhD) through the Training and Development Unit of the College held a 2-day CPD sensitization workshop for the teachers in the MFANTSEMAN municipality. The programme was held at GESDI at Saltpond on 3rd and 4th November, 2021.
CPD is the term used to describe the learning and training activities which professionals engage in to develop and enhance their teaching abilities. Effective CPD is fundamental to sustaining positive learning and continuous improvement of teachers and students.
The programme had close to one thousand (1000) participants all from the MFANTSEMAN municipality with each participant paying only Gh¢65.00. This fee covered their workshop materials, snacks and lunchs.
Dignitaries in attendance includes, The Principal of Komenda College of Education, Very Reverend Kwesi Nkum Wilson (PhD), The Mfantseman Municipal Director of Education and Mfantseman Regional Director of Education.
Very Rev. Kwesi Nkum Wilson(PhD) who stated the purpose of the gathering made it clear to the participants that their seriousness in whatever they will be taken through by their facilitators will surely reflect in their examinations. He then urged them not to let anything distract them from their purpose and the ultimate goal.
The Regional Director of Education applauded the participants for partaking in the workshop and admonished them to continue attending such workshops and seminars as to help improve and enhance their teaching in the classroom. He also told them, their promotions will also be based on their accumulated points
The Training and Development Unit is made up of four(4) Tutors with Mr. Joseph Amonoo Sekyi Amono being their Coordinator. Below are brief profiles about these facilitators.
FACILITATOR’S

Mr. DANIEL NKUM
Mr. Daniel Kofi Nkum is a senior Tutor in the Mathematics and ICT Education Department and the Dean Of Academics, Komenda College of Education, Ghana. Nkum holds a Master of Education degree in Mathematics from University of Cape Coast, Ghana, currently he is pursuing a Masters of Philosophy degree in Education at the University of Education Winneba. He is a member of the team of inspectors with the National inspectorate Board, Ghana and also a Portfolio Assessor with The National Teaching Council. He has co-authored four journal articles in mathematics practices in the classroom

MR. JOSEPH AMONOO SEKYI
Mr. Joseph Amonoo Sekyi, a product of university of cape coast(B. Ed Basic Education) and university of Ghana(M. A TESL). He was the Head of Department for the languages Department of Komenda College of Education. As Head of Department for languages, he provides academic leadership and spearheaded the growth of the department. He is currently the coordinator for the training and development unit. He has facilitated several languages courses in the college and also a senior course tutor at the college of Distance Education, university of Cape Coast. He also worked with plan international as facilitator for train for tomorrow project. He serves on several boards and committees in the college. He is part of a committee that develop training Manual and facilitate for T-TEL programmes. His research interest is in language teaching and writing. He has published extensively in these areas.

MR. GODWIN ATTOBRA
Mr. Godwin Attobra is the Assistant College Secretary of Komenda College of Education. He holds a Master of Philosophy degree in Human Rights and a Bachelor of Art degree In Social science Education all from the University of Education Winneba. Godwin is an excellent communicator, confident In dealing with people from All walks of life. Ambitious, optimistic and focused whilst appreciating the need to remain flexible. He serves on many committee including the CTPD and the ICT Technical committees. He has authored two journal articles In Human Rights and Education and facilitated several workshops.

MR. BENJAMIN HENRY TAYLOR
Mr. Benjamin Henry Taylor, a tutor of Literature In English Language in the Languages Department at Komenda College of Education, Komenda, Ghana. He is a native of Breman Asikuma, but currently lives In Winneba. He is an enthusiastic and versatile tutor with experience in teaching students in language teaching and learning. A very passionate tutor in optimizing students’ desire In language learning. He is dynamic tutor who adopts different teaching Pedagogies to assist students in language education.
He had his initial training from Breman Asikuma secondary school to Accra High school to University of Ghana Legon to University of Education, Winneba. Currently, he holds Master of Philosophy(MPhil) In English Education with specialty in Literature-in-English. Taylor has 23 years of experience in teaching at all levels, from Basic level to the secondary level to the Tertiary. In the last 8years he has taught as a Part Time Lecturer at College for Distance and E-learning(CODEL), UEW.
He has been a mentor, academic counselor and supervisor of students’ project work. Currently, he is a full-time tutor at Komenda College of Education, Komenda and the Head of Department for languages.
In the college, Taylor continues to perform such roles as, vetting pre-service teachers’ lesson notes, supervising teaching practices lessons and supervising project work. He is a focal person on Sexual Harassment and also a Member of the Training and Development Unit of Komenda College of Education.
Its clearly indicates the Unit is really made up of quality, competent and qualified personnel’s for the task. And they really educated and elaborated all the participants as what’s expected by the National Teaching Standard, the need for licensing and how to navigate and use the Teachers Portal.
All participants took a written quiz as their assessment for the workshop.
It was really a joyous Workshop as participants were extremely happy as to how the programme effectively went. Some praised the college and the facilitators for their patience and friendliness.
