Indeed, the 14th Matriculation ceremony of Komenda College of Education was really educative and exciting.
The excitement in the atmosphere on 5th February, 2021 was incomparable as Komenda College of Education held its 14th Matriculation ceremony to officially admit fresh men and women into the rights and privileges of the noble institution. In all, 606 fresh students were taken through the esteemed ceremony. The fortunate beneficiaries of this august ceremony were made up of 319 males representing 52.6% and 287 females representing 47.4% to pursues their respective academic programmes in the various faculties and Departments in the college.
Rev. Wilson Kortey Kotei, the college chaplain after leading the procession of the convocation, opened the ceremony with the opening prayer. He further emphasized in his short sermon the need for the matriculants to know that, they have a role to play in building mother Ghana.
The occasion was graced by Professor Daniel Kweku Hayford, from University of Education, Winneba, an old boy of Komenda College who In His address, encouraged the matriculants to aim high and study hard in order to continue climbing the academic ladder. He also prompted them that their admission into the college is a special calling, and that is to come and help the nation nurture the next generation.
The Principal of the College, Very Rev. Dr. Kwesi Nkum Wilson indicated that, the closeness of the ratio between the males and the females in this year’s admission is a clear indication that the college is working hard to attain gender parity.
The Principal also expressed his gratitude to the government of Ghana for its support to the institution in terms of significant projects and indispensable renovations.
He further admonished the matriculants to take their studies very serious, be responsible, hardworking and above all be self-disciplined. He also informed them to make Good use of the computer laboratory and the Library.
Rev. Dr. Kwesi Nkum Wilson admonished both staff and students to ensure a plastic-free environment, a campaign which was launched recently and very dear to his heart. Quoting (Wendell Berry) “Remember, the earth is what we all have in common”, he said.
Rev. Dr. Kwesi Nkum Wilson also took ample time and effort to enlighten all and sundry to closely respect and observe the Covid-19 protocols as outlined by the government so as to avoid the situation of compelling the government to close down schools. According to him, that will not be in the interest of neither the students, the staff nor other stakeholders.
A section of the matriculants who spoke expressed their excitement for the day and shared it all saying, the day was indeed a memorable one.
