An orientation programme and baseline study of Tutors of Komenda College of Education was held on Thursday 10th November 2016. This study which forms part of the T-TEL Challenge Fund Project titled: “Improving the Pedagogical skills of tutors in the use of technology for effective teaching and learning”; is intended to give the general overview of the project and to solicit tutors’ views on the use of technology as well as thier proficiency levels to enable the project team design the right instruments and modules for the project. The programme started at 11am at the College’s Conference Hall. It started with an opening prayer by Rev. William Armoo the chaplain of the college. This was followed by the introduction of the dignitaries by Mr. Eric Sekyi the MC for the occasion. Among them were Mrs. Comfort Sarpong Akosa the principal of the college, Dr. Asare Amoah, Dr.Kwame Odei Tettey, and Mr Collins Awuku of the University of Education Winneba, the partner institution. Mrs Comfort Sarpong Akosa, the principal of the college gave the welcome address. She thanked all and sundry for honouring the meeting. She specifically expressed her special appreciation to our partners from the University of Education Winneba for their support. She asked for their continuous support to ensure the success of the project. A presentation on the proposed project was delivered by Mr Raphael Sifah the Project Lead. He briefed tutors on the rational, the objectives and the activity plan for the project. According to Sifah, the entire project is supposed to be completed within twelve (12) months. However, the twelve (12) months has been divided into four quarters and a milestone is expected to be covered in each quarter. This was followed by a session where tutors were put into four groups and each group was made to respond and discuss a certain set of questions related to a specific aspect of technology. This section was intended to solicit for the views on the usage of technology in the teaching and learning in Komenda College. The areas were: 1. Computer attitudes 2. The School environment and the use of technology 3. The use of application software 4. The use of ICT resource centre After the various individual group discussion, each group did a presentation on their findings to the entire house for further discussion. the session was really educative and members really appreciated the work been done by T-TEL, especially the challenge fund project that is aimed at transforming teaching and learning through innovative projects undertaken by Colleges of Education.
